How to Install TUXEDO OS 2.0 [EUFI] on VMware Workstation/Player

In this article, we explain step by step how to install TUXEDO OS 2.0 on VMware Workstation or VMware Player in [UEFI mode].

Requirements:

  • VMware Workstation or VMware Player (At least version 16.x or newer)

  • TUXEDO OS 2.0 ISO file https://www.tuxedocomputers.com

  • At least 2 CPUs, 4 GB RAM, 20 GB disk space (preferably more)

1. Creating a VMware Virtual Machine

  1. Launch VMware Workstation/Player.

  2. Click on "Create a New Virtual Machine".

  3. Select "Typical" mode.

  4. From the "Installer disc image file (iso)" option, point to the TUXEDO OS 2.0 ISO file.

  5. Select Linux as the Guest OS and Ubuntu 64-bit as the version.

  6. Give the virtual machine a name (e.g., TUXEDO_OS_2_VM).

  7. Set the disk size to a minimum of 20 GB. Make sure "Store virtual disk as a single file" is selected.

  8. By entering hardware settings:

    • RAM: 4096 MB or more

    • CPU: 2 or more

    • Network Adapter: NAT or Bridge (depending on your needs)

    • Display: 3D acceleration active

    • Firmware Type: Select UEFI (If UEFI is not the default, change it from the "Advanced" option)

2. TUXEDO OS Installation

  1. Start the virtual machine.

  2. Select the "Try or Install TUXEDO OS" option.

  3. After the live session is loaded, click on the "Install TUXEDO OS" icon on the desktop.

  4. Select English as the language and continue.

  5. Set the keyboard layout and time zone.

  6. On the disk partitioning screen, select "Erase disk and install TUXEDO OS".

  7. Restart when the installation is complete.

Note: In some cases, the screen may remain black after restarting. Check the EFI boot priority in the settings or make sure "Force UEFI" is active in the VMware settings.

3. VMware Tools Installation (Optional but recommended)

VMware Tools enables functions such as screen resolution, mouse synchronization, and copy/paste.

  1. While inside the virtual machine, from the menu: Player > Manage > Install VMware Tools

  2. Click on the DVD icon that appears on the desktop.

  3. Extract the archive to the desktop.

  4. Open the terminal and enter the following commands:

    sudo apt update
    sudo apt install build-essential linux-headers-$(uname -r)
    cd /home/your_username/Desktop/vmware-tools-distrib
    sudo ./vmware-install.pl

  5. Restart the system when the installation is complete.

4. Final Checks

  • Is the system language and keyboard Turkish?

  • Is the screen resolution correct?

  • Is VMware Tools installed without any problems?

  • Is UEFI boot active?
