AlmaLinux / RHEL

Are AlmaLinux 10 and RHEL 10 identical?

AlmaLinux targets ABI compatibility but includes deliberate differences in the 10.x series. Btrfs, x86-64-v2 builds and i686 userspace are examples.

03
CPU compatibility

What matters when choosing x86-64-v2, x86-64-v3 or ARM64?

Third-party RHEL 10 packages commonly target x86-64-v3. AlmaLinux v2 helps older hardware, but external repositories may not provide v2 builds. On aarch64, applications and container images need arm64 support.

Install and update

Basic version checks on AlmaLinux 10.2

After provisioning, verify kernel, release, repositories and SELinux. The official 10.2 update instruction uses dnf upgrade -y.

Command 1
cat /etc/almalinux-release
Command 2
uname -r
Command 3
dnf repolist
Command 4
getenforce
Command 5
sudo dnf upgrade -y
Command 6
podman --version
05
Major migration

What should be checked before moving from AlmaLinux 9 to 10?

A major-version move is not a simple dnf update. Control panels, kernel modules, third-party repositories, PHP/database versions and CPU baseline changes require a dedicated migration plan.

Verify CPU support for the selected architecture
Check panel and licensing software support for AlmaLinux 10
Inventory EPEL and third-party repositories
Map PHP, MariaDB/MySQL and application versions
Prepare full backup and rollback host
Run real workload tests on staging
