AlmaLinux 10 is now a mature major release. Version 10.2 includes Btrfs, updated compiler toolchains, PostgreSQL 18, MariaDB 11.8, Podman 5.8 and OpenSSL 3.5.5 while targeting RHEL 10 ABI compatibility with deliberate AlmaLinux differences.
AlmaLinux 10.2 stable was released on 26 May 2026. AlmaLinux 10 is planned for active support through 31 May 2030 and security support through 31 May 2035. Validate hardware architecture, control-panel support and third-party repositories before production use.
Version 10.2 refreshes compiler, database, security and container components together. Plan required AppStreams and repositories before deployment.
New distribution package
New database package
Updated relational database
Container runtime tooling
Updated crypto layer
AlmaLinux-specific boot support
AlmaLinux targets ABI compatibility but includes deliberate differences in the 10.x series. Btrfs, x86-64-v2 builds and i686 userspace are examples.
Third-party RHEL 10 packages commonly target x86-64-v3. AlmaLinux v2 helps older hardware, but external repositories may not provide v2 builds. On aarch64, applications and container images need arm64 support.
Broadest RHEL 10 ecosystem compatibility
AlmaLinux option; verify third-party packages
Requires multi-arch containers and binaries
After provisioning, verify kernel, release, repositories and SELinux. The official 10.2 update instruction uses dnf upgrade -y.
cat /etc/almalinux-releaseuname -rdnf repolistgetenforcesudo dnf upgrade -ypodman --versionA major-version move is not a simple dnf update. Control panels, kernel modules, third-party repositories, PHP/database versions and CPU baseline changes require a dedicated migration plan.
For new servers, consider remaining security-support lifetime in addition to today's package compatibility.
The stable release was announced on 26 May 2026.
Active support is planned through 31 May 2030 and security support through 31 May 2035.
AlmaLinux 10.2 adds Btrfs support including boot from a Btrfs volume.
Share the current AlmaLinux/CentOS release, control panel and applications; we can plan a clean deployment or migration on suitable VPS/VDS.
